| Long ago, two Native American tribes lived in the Escondido area. The Luiseños lived to the north and the Kumeyaay tribe lived in the south and west.
They ate acorns, nuts, fruit, berries, and roots. The men hunted deer, rabbits, quail, ducks, mice, and squirrels.
They used animal skins for clothing and blankets. Tribes built cone-shaped homes made of reeds, brush, and bark.
